Amy Fitzpatrick MS, RD is a corporate dietitian and consultant to the dietary supplement industry. She holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in nutrition and has a decade of experience in the health and nutrition industry as a nutritionist, writer, researcher and educator. She is a member of the American Dietetic Association and the Nutrition in Complementary Care dietetic practice group and has served as adjunct faculty at Bastyr University in Seattle, Washington, one of the nation’s leading natural health sciences institutes. She regularly offers expert nutrition guidance for various media outlets, and has served as a speaker for professional organizations such as the Tennessee Dietetic Association.
Kerry Hughes, M.Sc., is an ethnobotanist that is committed to deepening the relationship between plants and people. She has done this though promoting sustainability in natural product production, market & product development for the natural products industries. Kerry is a consultant to the United Nations, through the International Trade Centre (ITC), producing Market New Service (MNS) reports focusing on essential oils and organics. She also is the US Representative for The Institute for Market Ecology (IMO), one of the world’s largest and most well-respected eco-product certifiers, and is opening an IMO office in the US, as well as focusing on developing awareness of their new FairTrade standard called Fair for Life. Kerry is the author of the unique book called The Incense Bible, Haworth Press (April/May 2007) and the founder of Organo-Leptic.com, which focuses on raw, natural incense. Kerry is also Co-Author of The Health Professionals Guide to Dietary Supplements, Lippincott, Williams & Wilkins (2006), a peer-reviewed guide to herbs and nutritional supplements, Botanical Medicines: The Desk Reference for Major Herbal Supplements, Haworth Press (2002) an in-depth text-book on the medical aspects of many of our top supplements; and The Natural Dietary Supplement Pocket Reference, INPR. Kerry continues to be Technical Field Editor of Prepared Foods/Nutrasolutions Magazines, serves on the Journal Advisory Board for Current Topics in Nutraceutical Research and the Advisory Boards for natural product companies, such as Essential Living Foods and Pharmachem Laboratories. Kerry is the founder of EthnoPharm, a product development and consulting company.
Karen L. Lewis has over 25 years of hands-on experience in the natural and organic sector. She has worked for 2 major natural food retailers and 1 premier food/drug retailer and is known for her deep understanding of the growing and complex consumer dynamic. Karen is seen as a futurist. Her business offering is grounded from her many years in the natural and food/drug retail sector in the critical pillars of strategic innovation, ingredients, marketing, relationship-building, trust and vision for our future. Dr. Marc A. Meyers is a senior Research and Development Manager with global experience in innovation and new technology development, microencapsulation and delivery systems. Experienced in the development of functional foods/nutraceuticals, dietary supplements, confectionery, bakery, syrups, pet foods, ingredients and technical service for food and flavor applications. He has been awarded 36 patents, including 19 US patents, 17 foreign patents and 12 PCT’s. Dr. Meyers has a Ph.D. from Rutgers University in Food Science and a B.S. from Penn State University in Food Science and is an active member of the IFT. He is also currently an Adjunct Professor of Food Science in the Foods and Nutrition Department at Montclair State University teaching Food Science class and labs. Dr. Meyers is currently the Managing Principal of MEYERS CONSULTING, LLC, a consulting product and technology development firm focusing on the food, dietary supplement and wellness industries.
Mary C. Mulry, Ph.D. has more than 25 years’ experience in product development, nutrition, product innovation and strategy, and quality systems. Her unique background has encompassed the entire food supply chain from ingredients to retailing. She has worked on projects involving conventional food, natural and organic foods, functional foods and dietary supplements. Mary has worked for Central Market and H-E-B, and Wild Oats Markets. She has also held management positions at Celestial Seasonings, Kraft Foods and the Kellogg Company. Dr. Mulry earned her Ph.D. in Food Science and Human Nutrition from the University of Florida and holds a B.S. degree in Food Science with Honors from the University of Wisconsin. She currently serves on the Board of Directors of the OASIS (Organic and Sustainable Industry Standards) trade association for organic personal care products. She also serves on the Science and Technical Advisory Council (STAC) of the Organic Center and volunteers for the Boulder Innovation Center and for the Colorado Small Business Development Center (SBDC) in Boulder, CO. She is a former member of the Board of Directors of the Organic Trade Association (OTA) and Past President of the Board of the Directors of the Organic Materials Research Institute (OMRI). Dr. Mulry is President of FoodWise, Inc.
Gabriel Perera has expertise in successfully driving sales and marketing, brand development, clinical trials, R&D and innovation, strategic business development, contracts, deal negotiation and licensing, and has specialist skills, relationships and networks in the international life sciences and natural health product arenas. In addition to his corporate experience as a Solicitor at DLA Phillips Fox, a Strategy Consultant with Accenture and in Research, Strategy and Business Development at Blackmores, Gabriel has developed, been involved with and consulted to a range of corporate, SME and start-up businesses across the natural health industry. Gabriel holds an LL.B, a B.Com and an M.Bus (Hons) (Marketing) from the University of Otago, New Zealand, and has advanced his education through further executive and clinical research training. He is also a Les Mills (NZ) Certified Personal Trainer, has completed Diploma studies in Ayurveda and is currently completing his Advanced Diploma in Western Herbal Medicine with the Southern Cross Herbal School at the University of Newcastle. Gabriel is currently serving as Corporate Development Manager at Blackmores Limited, Australia’s leading natural health brand.
Alan Roberts is the founder of Nutrition Innovation, Inc. (wwww.nutritioninnovation.com), which specializes in product development, marketing and regulatory support for the functional food and dietary supplement industries. Alan holds an undergraduate degree in Physiology and a Master’s degree in Human Nutrition. Since his collegiate years as an NCAA Division I athlete (Cross Country and Track & Field), he has maintained a strong interest in the field of nutrition, and has formulated an array of unique and innovative products. Alan has worked for Westar Nutrition, Herbalife, Natrol and Instone LLC. Alan is also a published author and a member in good standing with the Institute of Food Technologists, American Colleges of Sports Medicine, National Strength and Conditioning Association and the American Dietetic Association.
James Tonkin has focused on brand marketing development, primarily in the beverage sector, for over 35 years. He has successfully created and implemented business and financial strategies for domestic and international players—focusing from production to branding, marketing through sales implementation and distribution. Jim has focused branding initiatives in soft drink, bottled water, functional food and beverages, and non-carbonated beverage verticals. Jim has worked in management positions with Seven Up, Borojo Organics, Essentia and Icelandic Glacial Bottled Waters and with a who’s who list of beverage clients. Tonkin serves as a popular keynote speaker covering new beverage trends, successful branding insight and with his blunt and sometimes irreverent humor, pushes the envelope! He is the ‘beverage guru’ of the day as colleagues peg him.
